In light of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2019 (WA) commencing soon, I had the honour to be a VAD discussion panel moderator. On the discussion panel, we had Dr Scott Blackwell and Noreen Fynn, who served on the Ministerial Expert Panel that made recommendations regarding the Act’s legislative framework and now on the Implementation Panel. It was a pleasure to hear, amongst other things, their roles in developing the Act, the Act’s guiding principles, eligibility criteria, consultation process and why some aspects of the Western Australian Act departed from the Victorian legislation. Thank you to Steven Thiele, Education Vice-President of Murdoch Student Law Society (MSLS), for organising the discussion and having me on board!
